I participated in an Inventors Hack in partnership with Goya and Adidas. The hack explored the future of making, defining opportunities to support Adidas’s research into new materials, products, and services to become a more innovative and sustainable company.
During the hack we developed a shoe concept designed to assist young adults in making mindful decisions by alleviating the stress associated with choice paralysis.
Insights
More than 300 million pairs of trainers are thrown out every year.
The current challenge lies in the overwhelming array of available shoe options, which often leads to indecision and frustration for consumers. With so many choices on the market, it becomes difficult for individuals to make confident and satisfying purchasing decisions.
This growing complexity has prompted the need for a solution that simplifies the decision-making process while also addressing the environmental impact of footwear choices. Consumers are increasingly seeking products that not only meet their practical needs but also align with their values around sustainability.​​​​​​​
The Goal
To establish a sustainable shoe that seamlessly integrates simplicity and eco-consciousness. This shoe would offer an uncomplicated and guilt-free experience for consumers, making it easier for them to choose footwear that supports both their personal well-being and the health of the planet. By doing so, it promotes a more balanced, intentional, and fulfilling lifestyle.
Persona & Scenario Board
Kate struggles to stay active due to a lack of relevant equipment and an unpredictable schedule that makes building new habits difficult. She feels overwhelmed by the abundance of options in the market and is concerned about the environmental impact of buying multiple sneakers over time.
Her goals are to create a regular, sustainable active routine, maintain a healthy work-life balance, and make mindful choices that reflect her social and environmental values.
Innovation and Sustainability
Adidas’s innovation is deeply rooted in sustainability, utilising recyclable and biodegradable materials alongside green technologies such as ICEM and cellulose aerogel. The fabric incorporates pineapple leaf fibers, while plant-based algae midsoles contribute to a cleaner and more environmentally friendly product.
Shoe Design
In conclusion, this design was created with the essence of Adidas’s commitment to providing unparalleled comfort and performance. The revolutionary shoe soles, engineered with advanced technology, dynamically expand to offer enhanced support as users move, returning to their original shape when at rest to ensure consistent performance throughout their journey.
This timeless black pair effortlessly merges sporty aesthetics with smart casual attire, showcasing versatility that complements the user’s wardrobe—whether paired with sophisticated ensembles, laid-back looks, or vibrant activewear—suited for a dynamic lifestyle.
Motion Graphics
This motion graphic was created to introduce and promote a new motivational feature within the adidas app. Designed for consumers, the video highlights key functionalities to showcase how the service keeps users engaged in their fitness journey. The aim was to communicate the value of the feature in a visually compelling, brand-aligned format.
